THE PROJECT

The initiative

The Agrarian University of Civitavecchia has taken on a new challenge: bringing back the Mandrione olive grove from its long-time neglect, managing the area, and producing an extraordinary extra virgin olive oil.

The historic olive grove of Civitavecchia

This arboreal complex spans an area of over 100 hectares, where traces dating back to ancient Romans have been identified. Following a series of alternating events, it was subsequently restored to an olive grove by the users of the Agrarian University after the Second World War.

Environment and sustainability

The Agrarian University of Civitavecchia, with the aim of recovering an agricultural area with high historical, recreational, landscape and environmental value, is also motivated by the intent to prevent the deterioration of its public-interest heritage due to fires or plant diseases. All of this is achieved through the maintenance of shrub vegetation, with the goal of facilitating agronomic practices and recycling the wood resulting from pruning for the creation of tools and decorative objects.
